Radical Cataloging: the Book

Radical Cataloging: Essays at the Front, edited by K.R. Roberto, which is coming out this summer now has its Table of Contents online. My article, which I'll sooner or later post here in its pre-print version is "AACR2—Bendable but Not Flexible: Cataloging Zines at Barnard College."

Conferences, March-May 2008

I'm attending and likely presenting at three conferences this spring, and I'm excited about each one in a way I rarely do about certain giant conferences that meet in such asinine places as Anaheim, California.

These most excellent events are:
The Grassroots Media Conference in NYC on Sunday March 2
Women, Action & the Media in Cambridge, Mass. March 28-30
GLBT ALMS in NYC May 8-10

List of Talks

List of talks, presentations, skillshares, etc. I've done/will do.

(I know it's kind of silly to have a static page like this in a fancy content management system, but this just works better for me!)

78 books, 4 magazines, 20+ blogs, and a Kurt Vonnegut tribute

The Lower East Side Librarian Reading Log is also coming soon to a mailbox near you. The reading log is part of the Winter Solstice Shout Out and also a standalone publication that mostly goes to family members instead of the Shout Out, and when I'm especially neurotic, to friends, as well.

It's reviews/descriptions of all the books I've read between December 2006 and December 2007. ...

Zines Covered in the Christian Science Monitor

The Christian Science Monitor has a nice article about the endurance of print zines that quotes zine friends, librarian friends, friend friends, zine acquaintances, and me. "Wanted: pen, plain old paper, imagination," by Danielle Dreilinger. ...

Pittsburgh Progressive Library Skillshare report back

It's now been three weeks since the Progressive Library Skillshare in Pittsburgh, so my report back will not do justice to the event, I'm afraid. I'm just going to list the highlights, since too much time has passed for me to produce a thoughtful narrative.

Another Desk Set Article!

I just saw this, though the date is July 6, 2007. It falsely identifies me as a member of The Desk Set. (I have nothing against them and don't mind being mistaken for a member; I just hate for it to seem like I'm trying to take credit for their work and creativity.)

Library Camp NYC 2007: Effect Change

I led this session, so I don't have particularly good notes from it. Andrea's notes should be up on the Library Camp page soon, though.

I came up with the idea for this session that morning, having originally planned on pitching my standard zine librarianship and/or Radical Reference talks. Somehow I figured out in time that Library Camp sessions should be broader than that--and more conducive to an equal discussion, and I hit on "Effecting change at your library: develop a collection (e.g., zines) a program, whatever."

Read more. You might want to read my overview of the whole day first.
